On Wednesday, May 6, Hoffman’s two-toed sloths Sago and Ziggy welcomed a new baby at Como Park Zoo & Conservatory.

The birth is part of an Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Species Survival Plan (SSP) breeding recommendation. As an accredited zoo, Como works closely with the SSP to help support healthy, sustainable populations of animals in human care.

So far, mom and baby are doing well and spending lots of time snuggling close together, just as sloth babies do. Animal care staff have even observed the baby “kissing” mom while she eats! 💚

Guests can see Sago and her baby in the Primate Building, where they share their habitat with Como’s saki monkeys. Our animal care team continues to closely monitor both mom and baby and provide them with the support they need as they bond together.

And if you’re wondering whether the baby is a boy or girl…we won’t know for quite some time yet!
