Experience a world of fun this Grandparent’s Weekend, September 7 & 8, at Como
Take Grandma and Grandpa around the world this Grandparent’s Day at Como Zoo. On September 7 & 8 Como Park Zoo & Conservatory will celebrate National Grandparent’s Day with a safari themed weekend. Special activities will welcome, educate, and entertain all ages, all weekend.
Get your passport in the Visitor Center when you arrive and travel through Como to meet volunteers who will be happy to tell you more about some of Como’s iconic species. Make sure to get your passport stamped at each location and when you get them all stop back in the Visitor Center for a prize! While in our visitor center make a fun elephant craft to take home and enjoy our Noon storytime featuring the book ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’.
The impetus for a National Grandparent’s Day originated with Marian McQuade, a housewife in Fayette County, West Virginia. She hoped to persuade grandchildren to tap the wisdom and heritage their grandparents could provide. President Jimmy Carter, in 1978, proclaimed that National Grandparent’s Day would be celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day.
Don’t fight the traffic! Take our free shuttle that will drop you off at the front door! Our off-site shuttle lot located at 1930 Como Avenue.
