Geographic Range: North Atlantic part of Brazil, in the states of Bahia and Minas Gerais
Size: 10 inches long, 1 lb.
Lifespan: Up to 14 years
Conservation Status: Endangered

Fun Facts:

  • A tamarin’s tail is longer than its body.
  • Emperor tamarins live in groups of about four generally with one female and three males.
  • Emperors will sometimes form mixed troops with another kind of monkey, the saddleback tamarin (Saguinus fuscicollis).
  • The moustache helps individuals identify each other and assists in display.
