Sponsored by our friends at Xcel Energy, Como’s annual Earth Day and conservation celebration is a full weekend of family activities, crafts and interpretive opportunities to learn more about the earth’s amazing animals and plants, and what we can do to protect them.

A Weekend ‘Earth Day’ celebration April 21 and 22

April 22, 2023 marks the 53nd anniversary of Earth Day, a global celebration that also reminds us what we can do to protect the planet’s most precious resources. At Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, we invite the public to a “Party for the Planet” presented by Xcel Energy, on April 22 & 23 from 10-4 each day. Bring the family for a fun weekend of activities, trivia, crafts, games, and education programs that explore animals, plants and people that depend on this big blue ball. You’ll leave with some great ideas for reducing your own impact on the planet, and improving our natural habitats.

If the Party For The Planet isn’t enough to get you to Como, maybe this is: it is the opening weekend of the Charlotte Partridge Ordway Japanese Garden! After a long winter’s sleep, the Japanese Garden wakens for visitors on Earth Day, April 22.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle at Como

If you are spring cleaning, search your drawers for old cell phones and bring them to Como where we will recycle them as part of the Gorillas On The Line challenge, an annual global mobile phone recycling challenge organized by the Gorilla SAFE engagement team with participants from across the country and around the globe.
