Unique flower arrangements that utilize the flowers, foliage and berries of autumn will be created by artists from Ikebana International’s Minneapolis-St Paul Chapter. The arrangements will be on display in the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory’s Ordway Garden November 6-12, 2023.
Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. Ikebana is more than simply putting flowers in a container. It is a disciplined art form in which nature and humanity are brought together. It is steeped in the philosophy of developing closeness with nature.
The growing appreciation of Japanese art and architecture in the West has extended to the Japanese way with flowers. Ikebana is an art, in the same sense that painting and sculpture are arts. It has a recorded history; backed up by articulate theories; and it is concerned with creativity. In Japan, flower arrangements are used as decorations on a level with paintings and other art objects.
*PRO TIP* If you are interested in seeing the process of Ikebana, setup begins at 10am on November 6.
