We are thrilled to announce the arrival of an adorable baby Dall sheep, born on Easter Sunday, adding an extra dose of cuteness to the holiday festivities. The newest addition to the zoo family is the fifth offspring of proud mama Sunny, a 5-year-old Dall sheep, and dashing dad Sylvester, an 8-year-old stud.
Dall’s sheep fans and Scavenger Hunt enthusiasts can have the opportunity to participate in the naming of this precious lamb at a special Como Friends event, Como Quest, on Saturday, May 4th. It’s an egg-citing chance to leave your mark on the newest member of the flock during a family fun treasure hunt throughout, and benefitting, Como Park Zoo & Conservatory!
Visitors to Como can catch a glimpse of the fluffy newcomer and her family every day from 10 am to 6 pm. Dall’s sheep, known for their distinctive curved horns, are a captivating sight for animal lovers of all ages. While the males, or rams, sport massive, curled horns, the females, or ewes, flaunt shorter and more slender ones. And don’t be fooled by their similarities in appearance at a young age – it’s the growth of those horns that sets the rams apart as they mature.
Typical gestation period for Dall sheep is 175 days. The birth of this baby Dall sheep adds another chapter to Como Zoo’s commitment to conservation as a proud accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).
